I think Emily has a little interest in the tour??

Over the last couple days I've noticed a small interest from my wife Emily in watching the tour de france. Asking questions such as, "Why would anyone put themselves through that pain and suffering?", or, "What do the different color jerseys mean?" As with most programs I like, Emily hits the computer and zones out what I'm watching but this is different. I enjoy watching it with her and both have come to a conclusion that someday we will visit this magnificent country that the tour slices through.

Ahhhh poor young fellow!

This is one of the hardest stages of the tour, lots of hill climbing fun.

Maybe, O Maybe, Emily will go bike riding with me????

STUPID BACK/RIB WHATEVER YOU CALL IT!!!

I've come to the conclusion that my back/rib doesn't want to race in Utah (especially if it's Xterra)! It all started about 2weeks prior to the inagrual Winter Xterra. Yes, my back/rib was strained, sprained and deranged which resulted in a painful, hard to breath experience, with poor results. NOW, about 3 weeks prior to Xterra Mountain Championships in Ogden, Utah, my STUPID unfixable back rib pain or whatevers goin on back there decides to put a damper on everything! I will be doing my own procedure to remove my back, yes my back. I will be a cyborg if all works out, will keep you posted.

here

So today I hurt Daves feelings by telling him that noone cares about our blog because I find it very presumption that we should assume people want to read about our dull boring lives. So to make ammends I will Blog every single day I can even if nothing exciting has happend to us at all. So today Dave and I are not best friends, but I am sure we will communicate and figure it out. After all, thats what marriage is about? Two people growing together and learning together and becoming super duper close right?

Random chain food stuff I did not know?

Subway
Original Location: Bridgeport, Ct.
Fun Fact: As you can see, what we know as "Subway" today was originally named Pete's Super Submarines (top photo). The name was eventually changed to Subway. Part of the reason was that when dropping the "Super" for a radio ad, the shortened version sounded too much like "Pizza Marines," and resulted in a number of customers calling to ask what types of pizza they served. The bottom photo is another early location in the Bridgeport area. This is one of the very first times that the name "Subway" was used.

Original Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Fun Facts: Although Harland Sanders opened his first restaurant, Sanders Court & Cafe in Corbin, Kentucky, the first actual KFC franchise was opened by Pete Harman in Salt Lake City in 1952. A handshake agreement stipulated a payment of a nickel to Sanders for each chicken sold. By 1964, there were more than 600 franchised outlets in the U.S., Canada and England. Today there are more than 11,000 restaurants around the world.

SOBE SPRINT TRIATHLON

Since Emily has been slacking on posting stuff thought I'd fill u in about the SOBE tri on Sunday, it was a little hectic and a little frustraing, for me. I think it all went down hill while registering sat., I was listed female 15-19 from NY (they were basically calling me a little girly man). I'm not sure if i'm to hard on myself but I really didn't feel I did well.

I had a horrible horrible swim and kind of freaked out a little out there?!
The bike was ok. The run was ok. Here's what I don't get, the last 1.5miles people were passing me going the other direction on a route that wasn't even close to being the run out of this 5k loop?

15 minutes after the race I saw 2 guys I ran with the whole run and told me some people in front as well as behind us on the run went the wrong way which turned out to be shorter and the results changed. So i got bumped! That was the frustrating part but what can u do? This race was to be a fun training session, so I need to shut-up before Emily kills me!! I'm happy to be healthly and racing!
Results:
23th of 541
4th of 41, Age-Group

Moving on to my next A race and adventure, Ogden,Utah Xterra in 4 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Emily will be going out to Colorado ahead of time then meeting me in Utah. I can't wait to get out there for a little race action, R&R and some quality time with the family and noodles!

Scottish "Round Hill" Games 2008

So after a long day and night of partying on Friday, 4th of July, Emily needed a little rest and did not join me this year on a trek to the Scottish games on Saturday. So I had to turn it into a solo mission.

It ended being a fun mountain bike ride entering into the games. The games are located at Cranbury Park in Norwalk, CT. They have a really short trail system for riding but, Shhhhhhh its also a back door into the games without paying the fee of $17 (I made up for it by purchasing food and swords to help the overall cause)! I love the games and have been coming to them for over 20 yrs. My Family use to help out with the organizers back in the day. Most importantly, the games was where I won my very first trophy at age 5. The event was a 100 yrd dash and I still have the trophy! Ok, whatever Dave lets move on. I have more pics and vids to post soon but for now here are some.

Gallagher's Mansion gives a really good backdrop for the games.

The Pipe-n-Drum bands are AWESOME and send chills down my spine every time I hear them play and watch them march!

This section of the games is cool because you can find out about your Scottish heritage and or genealogy.

So, last year Emily and I found some informative stuff concerning her last name "Leishman". Emily knew she was of Scottish decent but from what part of Scotland and to which clan was her association. We found the clan but I forgot exactly where among the highlands they lived. This is what we were told:

Surnames regarded as septs (sub-branch) of the Macpherson; MacGowan, MacKeith, MacLeish, MacMurdo, MacMurdoch, Murdoch, Pearson.
*NOTE* We were told not to pronounce the name 'Mac-fear-son' but 'Mac-fur-son'! The clan member at the tent explained that "Fear" had no place in the name or country!

SEPTS.
A sept is a family name that can be related to a clan or larger family for various reasons. Usually this came about either through marriage or by a small family seeking protection from a larger and more powerful neighbour. Nowadays, this relationship is most often seen in the clan tartan that individual families are entitled to wear.
Over time, many septs have become clans in their own right and, in the political turmoil that Scotland has seen over the centuries, many others came to be related to more than one clan.

Hopefully next year my trusty side-kick will join but for now I'm out!
